Skin Infections and Skin Cancer
Infectious diseases of the skin is a field related to the analysis and treatment of bacterial, viral and fungal disorders that can present with skin findings. These infectious conditions range the spectrum from common entities such as folliculitis, impetigo, fungus, molluscum contagiosum and herpes, to more uncommon clinical entities, such as syphilis and leprosy. Patients with HIV, the cause for AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome), are at an increased risk for developing a variety of skin problems or diseases because of their compromised immune system. HIV-related skin infections may create or show up from viral, fungal, skin malignancies, skin allergies or from adverse drug interactions.
